An evening quiet city scene. Two people are walking away from the camera past a waist high wall. "The Long Way Home" is written along the wall.

The Long Way Home

You were running late to meet me at the bar.
Sitting in the Hawley, drinking, thinking, wondering where you are.
But you walked in, and I knew right then,
Things would never be the same again.
And I don’t know how I even got this far.

When I walked you to the bus stop, I was fighting shaky hands.
I tripped over my nervous tongue, so I didn’t get the chance to say.

Let’s take the long way home,
I’m not ready to say goodbye and let you go yet.
But you don’t know it.
Let’s take the long way back,
And we’ll dance and talk, and trade numbers on our phones.
So let’s take, let’s take, let’s take the long way home.

It’s a few days gone, and we’re hanging out downtown.
We got dinner now we’re talking, walking, just hanging around.
But the sun starts to go down too fast,
I don’t want to let this moment pass,
Cause I’m scared that I might lose this thing we’ve found.

As we walk under the street lights, I don’t really have a plan.
I look around at store fronts, then I turn and take your hand and say.

Let’s take the long way home,
I’m not ready to say goodbye and let you go yet.
And you should know it.
Let’s take the long way back,
And we’ll get ice cream; you can steal some of my cone.
So let’s take, let’s take, let’s take the long way home.

We’re still here together; it’s forever, you and I.
I know I’m not perfect, but you’re worth it, so I’ll try.
To hold on to that feeling, cause it’s real and that’s no lie.
And after all these years, I still believe that you’re the light.

Let’s take the long way home,
I’m not ready to say goodbye and let you go.
And how could you not know it by now?
Let’s take the long way back,
And we’ll laugh about those days and how we’ve grown.
And we’ll wonder if we ever could have known,
How much has changed and how the time has flown.
So let’s take, let’s take, let’s take the long way,
When I’m with you, there is no wrong way.
I’ll always want to take the long way home.

The long way home.

Let’s take, let’s take the long way.
Let’s take, let’s take the long way.
Let’s take, let’s take the long way.
Let’s take, let’s take the long way home.

So let’s take, let’s take, let’s take the long way home.
